Long messages "View All" - shows nothing

[Android Central Question]

I have a Galaxy s8. I'm using the native messages app. Recently, it stopped showing all of a long text message and instead shows "View All" at the bottom of the message. When I click on it, it only shows the date and time the message was sent with "No subject". I viewed the slideshow. Shows the same thing. Saved attachment. Takes a screen grab of "No subject". How on earth can I get my text messages? Mom uses text messaging precisely because she doesn't have time to doohickey around.
