I don't want the Apps icon on my quick access bar. The manual says just long press and drag it to the home screen. However, every time I do that, it just goes right back onto the quick access bar. I have looked at many of the home screens that people have posted here and there are several of them that don't have that icon there.

Can anyone tell me how to remove it from the quick access bar and put it on my desktop instead?

What phone do you have? Your phone's desktop is a type of app called a launcher, and each manufacturer uses a different one from one another and has different features and settings. I'm assuming you are talking about the dock on the bottom of the screen. On some launchers this can't be removed. On more recent Samsung phones it can be removed if you set up swipe to open app drawer.
