Android Central Question

I have a G7 Active. My biggest problem is that when I save a .jpg file, the darn phone is dropping the extension from the file. I once discovered a way to rename the file and add an extension, but I don't even seem to be able to find that option any longer. I have tried several file managers, but most don't even display the file if there is no extension. I am becoming extremely frustrated with this phone that ATT just sold me a couple of months ago. Thanks for any help. -TC

Welcome to Android Central! That seems odd. You're talking about photos that are taken by the stock Camera app, right? If you use My Files and go to the /DCIM/Camera directory, how are the photo files listed?

Nope, pictures taken by the stock camera app work fine. The problem was that pictures downloaded from the internet via the Chrome browser were being saved with no extension at all. This was causing the file manager as well as the Gallery app to disregard the photos entirely. Still the file was there, just unreadable. When I was able to locate the files, the phone said it didn't know how to read the file. I have since discovered that it was the Chrome browser creating the problem. The Firefox browser doesn't create this problem. I tried several different file managers to attempt to rename the files and add the proper extension, but I had zero luck with any of the file managers that I tried. I suppose I'll just have to understand that Chrome has this issue and refrain from using it for downloading photos.

Hmm, that's strange. I just tested a download on my Pixel 2 XL using Chrome, and it downloads normally as a .jpg. Can you give an example of a site where you're trying to download a photo and it results in no .jpg extension? What I tried was a Google Image search, tapping an image, tapping the menu button associated with the image and selecting View Original Image. With the original image filling the screen, I long-press the image and select Download Image.
