My phone is Nexus 6P running under Android 8.1.0.

In my home there are two WiF sources---a router in one floor and an extender in another. Both have the same access password.

In the past I could setup the WiFi options so as to 'connect automatically' to at least one of them. Not any more. Now, when I move from one floor to the other, I have to manually connect to the better signal. If I don't, I may loose connection altogether.

Is there a way to take care of that?

In the advanced settings for WiFi, there should be a "Auto network switch" item. Turn it on. (You may still lose an existing connection to a site if the phone switches access points - or you may not. It depends on how you have them set up.)
