Everything I move files through 'My Files' and I go back to storage in settings, the amount of space is still the same. My phone is not rooted and is android version 4.1.2, thanks in advance.

Moving a 2K file isn't going to show you much difference in the amount of free space. You have to move hundreds of KB before it starts to show (because you're seeing down to the 10s of KB at best). Move the largest files first.

Once everything is moved, restart the phone - then look at how much internal space is free.

(And you shouldn't move, you should copy, then - if the copy was successful, delete the original. If a move goes bad in the middle you can lose both the source and destination files. If a copy goes bad, all you can lose is the destination file - the source will still be intact.)
