Android Central Question

Just got a new Samsung Galaxy S8+ for Christmas. On my old Galaxy (which was a Grand Prime model), I had a little numerical indicator attached to my Messages app icon which, in addition to my notification sound, alerted me that I had an unread message. And the little number would show how many unread messages I had. Since my Messages app was on my home screen (and is on my new phone), it was very easy access to that information, especially when I had the sound/vibration turned off. It's weird that it wouldn't be available on this updated Galaxy but I sure can't find how to turn it on. Can anyone direct me? Thanks!!

Which "messenger" app?
Which app launcher are you using?

The "unread" counts are a cooperation between the apps and the launcher. Some launchers play more nicely with some apps than others.

Check the phone's Settings app. Sometimes the unread count options needs to be turned on.
