Why is the Galaxy S5 keyboard not appearing on the lock screen?

[Android Central Question]

Whenever my phone shuts down, it requires me to enter my password instead of using my fingerprint. However, when I tap the space to type, no keyboard appears. Usually I have to turn off the device several times until it will finally appear. Is this a common issue, are there any fixes, or am I just missing something simple?
