Old Android version preventing downloads

[Android Central Question]

The 4ife smart stick I bought about 3 months ago has an Android 4.4 version. Have tried to get response from 4ife but no luck. The downloads I am trying to get require 5.1 Android version. Is there any way to update and why is my recently purchased stick using such an old version?

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that device wasn't exactly new when you bought it. In looking it up, that device originally shipped with 4.1.1 (or is advertised as having 4.1.1), 4.4 is likely as far as it will go. Another key indicator to me, the "most recent review" link indicates a review from 2014.
