There is a red circle with a white arrow in the upper right corner my Droid turbo 2. I've never seen it before, it just appeared today, and hasn't gone away. It's when I go to Chrome, and is located where the share, bookmark etc. options are supposed to be. Not sure how to attach a picture so you can see what I am referring to, so if there's a way to do that, it may help you understand.

52 tabs?! By chance have you closed any of them to see if that symbol means too many tabs or it can't open any more?

    Could be outdated chrome. https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/1385049
    Try uninstalling and reinstalling chrome.

A quora question also says there might be an update or you might need to restart Chrome.

    Hi, all.
I am new to these forums. I am also frustrated by this new icon as it appears very intrusively. This icon means that Chrome wants you to update it. Even though I have disabled app update in Gogle Play Store, Chrome still auto-checks for updates and if it finds one, this icon will appear and will not go away.
When you reinstall Chrome, it disappears, but returns after a couple of hours. I think it might have something to do with chrome-update-interval setting. Above all, this icon positions itself as the top item of the menu, pushing all other items bellow it. Frustrating.

Does anybody know how to stop this? I can't believe that after 63 versions and hundreds of builds and thousands of users complaining about not being able to choose whether they want to check for update or not, Google still hasn't made a simple switch like "Automatically check for updates" and let the users decide on it.
On Windows, Chrome also does this, but it is much more easier to prevent its updater engine to check for updates thanks to registry tweaks, folder permissions and command line switches. But I don't know how to achieve the same results on my unrooted Galaxy S5.

See the earlier 52 tab comment, I think you should close 51 of them, then clear the cache and reboot.

The icon in question has nothing to do with the number of opened tabs. It is trying to enforce the update.

Maybe deny permissions to Chrome like notifications, synch, popups.....

As you can see in the picture Christinaw09 posted, it is an item that incorporates itself into Chrome's own menu. In chrome://flags there is even an option to always show that "Update Chrome" item, but no option to not show it. Because it is integrated into Chrome, denying push notifications won't solve this as this does not use Android's notification system.
