I just tried the secure folder feature using Samsung's app thing and added my fingerprint and a number code... but now my phone locks. Obviously I can in lock the phone but do I HAVE to have my phone locked to have a secure folder?
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of securing the folder?
Can the phone lock be disabled leaving only the folder locked?
    Thanks!

Ok. So it's been a while and I actually had a chance to ask Samsung this question. No, the short answer is No.
You do not have to have the phone locked to have the Secure Folder work... however, you will unlock the Secure Folder with a PIN or pattern. You cannot use the biometrics with the Secure Folder unless you lock the phone.
So you can have the phone unlocked but you just set up the Secure Folder with a PIN or pattern.
If you want to set up the Secure Folder to use with the biometrics, then that will require you to lock the phone too.
    Make sense?
    Love the Secure Folder feature!
