Is this a virus text: "SOS" - "I need help"

[Android Central Question]

Yesterday, my daughters Samsung Note 5 sent a text message while she was video chatting with a friend. She didn't know anything about the text. It appeared on my phone, my Dad's phone, & my Mom's phone. The text had her image, but the number shown was her Dads phone number. It said "SOS" and had a link to her location. Then another text was sent right after, only it said "I need help" and had a link to her location. Is this a virus??

Welcome to the forums. It's not a virus, it's a feature enabled out of the box when you push the power button 3 times in very quick succession.

I had that happen today on my phone .. I opened it thinking it was my aunt .. I called her and it wasn't her then about 3 hours later my best friend texted me asking if I was okay because she received an sos text from me .. now I'm wondering what the heck

Welcome to Android Central! What kind of phone does she have? Some phones have an SOS feature where if they triple-press the Power button, it will send a text to an emergency contact.
