Android Central Question

My Pixel2 phone started "uploading" pictures (God knows WHERE they are going!) and I cannot stop it once it started. I did shut the wifi off and told it to wait for wifi. But once it gets connected to wifi, it will start again. I know, unlimited cloud storage and all, but I don't WANT my photos there, I want them in my computer. Which, BTW, seems impossible, since I have no cord to connect to the computer, thanks to the funky new port.
So, how do I stop uploading once it begins?

Settings/Accounts/your google account. Uncheck the picture backup. Then restart the phone and it shouldn't upload.

The cables are cheap - if you don't want to pay the Amazon shipping (I got 3 of 3 different lengths [braided nylon] for about $10) you can get them on eBay - if you're willing to take the chance on the cables meeting the OD 2.0 spec. They'll charge, they'll transfer data, bur if pushed, they may or not meet the spec (I have nothing that can push them to test it).
