Galaxy S4 phone open apps and phone calls get sent to the background when screen goes to sleep

[Android Central Question]

This just started this week, and it is more annoying on phone calls than with open apps. When the screen goes black on a phone call, when I go to hang up the phone through the phone app button, I have to go back into the app instead of the phone call screen being up when the screen wakes back up.

It does this on all other apps as well. When the screen reappears after going to sleep, it goes back to the home screen instead of to the app I had open.
