I am shopping for a new phone and they all say fingerprint unlock. I often use my phone outdoors with gloves on and don't want to have to take them off every time- can I still unlock the phone with a swipe or pin even if it has fingerprint technology?

You don't have to set up the fingerprint security just because the phone has it. If you have set it up, you can use your backup PIN if you wish.

You don't NEED to, but be aware that most third party screen lock apps will force you to enter your PIN or password if you lock your screen with a third party app, like one that allows you to simply touch an icon or use the proximity sensor. I found an app that will let me unlock MY phone how I see fit, allowing me to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock my phone, no matter how I locked it. It's called 'Hi Locker', free with a pro version for $1.99.
