I have a Samsung J3 Eclipse, and on some long messages there will be a portion where it's just random symbols. What does this mean and how can I fix it? I will try to add a picture.

Unfortunately that seems to come from the carrier sending the texts and your carrier when parsing long messages. Since SMS as a protocol has a character limit per message, merging several messages into one seems to be tricky for some carriers, apparently. So if the device sending it doesn't flag the message correctly, or if your carrier doesn't parse it properly, you'll end up receiving the truncated messages with the 'link' data, usually meant to be used by the carrier, displayed as part of your messages, and since this ends up being translated as garbage data, you see either symbols or just squares.
