My S2 8" suddenly died

[Android Central Question]

I turned on WiFi and got the message Connected but no Internet. That was incorrect - the internet was working. Then the screen froze and would not respond to the home key. I turned it off at the power switch and the Samsung logo began but didn't stop, then the screen went to black. Obviously the operating system failed to load, and the tablet will not respond. Battery was at 50% at the time. Can the S2 be re-set or is it cooked? Can it be repaired?
