My friend gave me his phone and told me it wouldn't go past the T-Mobile logo screen. I tested it and got into bios. When I hit Odin Mode it froze on Downloading... Do not turn off target...

I popped the battery out, did a factory reset, wiped cache, and took the sim card out. I'm wondering if it needs a new operating system?

Does anyone know how to proceed?

Welcome to Android Central! Odin Mode looks like that -- it says "Downloading, do not turn off target" even if you're not connected to your computer via USB and actively transferring a firmware file.

After you did the factory reset/wiped cache, it still freezes at the logo? That's probably either a corrupt firmware or a motherboard problem. You could try reflashing the firmware using Odin: http://forums.androidcentral.com/amb...interface.html
