So my grandfather passed away, and I got his phone. We factory reset it, but when I try to sync my Gmail it keeps saying "Password has been reset, try again in 24 hours" regardless of how long I wait. Is there any way to maybe skip this step, or do anything so I can at the very least complete the first time setup?

Welcome to Android Central! It's probably Google's Factory Reset Protection, which requires the previous Google account to be properly removed before the factory reset. If it wasn't removed, you have to enter your grandfather's account name and password. If you don't know it, then unfortunately you won't be able to use the phone. Sorry!
