I am not able to receive group message on pixel 2

I'm having a problem with my group messaging. When I send a mes sage in the group chat the other people get my messages no problem. When I am supposed to receive a message sometimes it comes in and then other times ( which is more often) I receive a message from that certain person as if they were texting me directly. Instead of a text it looks like it is trying to download a picture or file . I've had this problem for approximately 2-3 weeks and haven't been able to participate in group messaging. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The texting app on the Pixel 2 is an RCS app (the next protocol for texting). Try installing something like GoSMS or some other SMS or Messaging app (but not Facebook Messenger - that's not texting).

Welcome to Android Central! It might also be an issue with your mobile data. If it's spotty, you might get that problem transiently, until the mobile data reception improves. Group texting is sent via MMS, not regular voice signal.

Who is your carrier? Sometimes, tweaking the APN settings will help with this issue.
