    when i plug my phone in to charge it i get a burning smell from the port where you plug it in.

    Welcome to Android Central! That doesn't sound too good. Make sure there isn't any debris in the port -- if it looks clean, then I agree, there's probably some electrical problem. Make sure all of your important data is backed up, in case the phone completely fails without further warning, then bring the phone to a repair shop.

    And be prepared for the shock when you hear the price. An S5 has to be pretty well disassembled to replace the port (the screen has to come off) because of the waterproofing. (Around here they charge about $90 to replace the $5 port board.)

    The port very well could be damaged, but I'd first try replacing the USB cable. They can be prone to going bad. Usually it's just slow to non-existent charging, but I recently had one short out to the point it started smoking and melted the outer jacket. Thankfully I had it near me and noticed right away. Replaced the cable and all is well.
