Text messages on home screen

Can you get your text messages to show up on the home screen without having to open the text icon

Do you receive any indication of received texts on your homescreen? Go to Settings -> Notifications, then scroll until you find your messaging app, and ensure "Display on lockscreen" is enabled and "When locked hide notification content" is disabled.
