I'm trying to change my theme (wallpaper and lock screen) and I keep getting an error that says "error, could not load media."

I too have this problem. I changed my wallpaper (edited my current theme) in February, and I never had any problems before. But now I can't choose any photo whatsoever, no matter if it's taken with the same phone or downloaded.
    I have HTC U11

I tried that cache wiping thing successfully, but nothing changes. I still get "Error, could not load media" no matter what. Grrr what a brick...

This is a bit of a longshot, but try uninstalling updates to Chrome. My goal here is to see if the problem might be due to an update to Android System Webview, which in Nougat and above is handled by Chrome (but in Marshmallow and below, it's a separate app called Android System Webview). Updates to this have been known to cause odd issues in certain devices on occasion. So assuming that you all have phones on Nougat or above, the way to test this would be to uninstall updates to Chrome.

Since this sounds like it might be a more widespread HTC issue, I would suggest to you all that you contact HTC and give them feedback: HTC Support | Live Chat

    Hey
I have a HTC 10 desire pro, I kinda figured it out.
So I have the exact same problem going on, so I tried everything from turning it off to rebooting the phone.
So then I uninstalled the updates for 'themes', and it worked. It's called the HTC sense home thing.
But after it updated I couldn't change it.
Hoping for an update that fixes this bug

Care to share how to uninstall such updates? I was unable to figure it out, Google didn't help either.

If you go to Settings>Apps, can you find the Themes app there? If so, tap it and then tap Uninstall. If it's a preinstalled app, it will only uninstall updates.
