On my phone I can take a picture by pressing the camera button, but my phone also has a photos button and it downloads button. When I take a picture with my camera the photos can be found in my photos icon, but can also be found in the downloads icon. I don't understand why my photos are available in so many different places. Is the downloads icon saving my pictures in the cloud? Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? The Photos icon is for the Google Photos app, which is Google's main gallery app (and which can also backup your photos to your Google Photos in the cloud, and display those photos). The Downloads shortcut shows what is in the /Download directory, but on my Pixel 2 XL, tapping the menu button can also bring you to all Images -- this doesn't mean those images were downloaded. Essentially, the Downloads shortcut opens the phone's native file manager, but defaults to the /Download directory. This might not be the case for every phone, though.
