Acer e39, Android KitKat, bottom horizontal portion of screen becomes unreponsive in home screen

I have acer e39, running, android kitkat... The problem im facing is, most often, the bottom menu on the home screen thhat is where the phone icon, message icon, home button icon , browser icon are present, that whole horizontal area becomes unresponsive. After multiple clicks or so, suddenly it starts working. Im unable to understand the problem.can anyone please tell why this is happening, is this because of somme virus or malware etc. ? Thanks!

Try tapping on, say, the phone icon - then waiting a few minutes. If it eventually comes up, the phone was busy doing something else when you tapped it.

If not, try installing another launcher. If that works, your launcher is corrupted.

If the new launcher has the same problem, your digitizer is probably intermittent and has to be replaced, but considering that the phone is 4 years old, it would probably be cheaper to buy a more modern phone.
