Recently my Samsung Galaxy Tab A began discharging while it is plugged in. Then it takes hours to recharge. I turned it off and left it overnight and it recharged from 63 to 80. I changed chargers and tried a different cable. It dings occasionally. It always shows that it is connected.

Welcome to Android Central! The battery might be failing, although it could also be a problem with charging port. You'll probably have to bring it to a repair shop, unless it still happens to be under warranty.
