I'm heading to China for the first time this summer.

I'm aware that China blocks certain websites/services. Unfortunately, I have a Google Pixel 2 XL and I know that Google is blocked in China.

Does this mean that some of my phone's services won't work or just my whole phone won't work?

If you are a Pixel 2 user in China, do you have any recommendations for me to do before I leave the US?

    Google services won't work. You won't be able to get to blocked websites. But if you get a SIM from a Chinese carrier that uses bands 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 32(1500), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500) or 66(1700/2100), you'll get 4GLTE. You should definitely get voice, text and 3G.

(If you're using the eSIM, go to Settings/Network & Internet/Mobile Network/Advanced/Carrier and you can switch between the eSIM and the physical SIM. If you're already using a SIM card, just swap it with the Chinese one you get.)
