Accelerometer shows motion in x and y axes but not z axis?

I recently bought an Huawei P Smart and have been facing this problem which I noticed when trying to rotate the screen but auto rotate doesn't work. I checked in Sensor Test and CPU Z apps and while x and y axes are responding, z axis is stuck at -78 for some reason. Is this a software issue and I should wait for an update? Or should I get it checked at a Huawei service center?
