    When I take a picture in sunlight in the auto mode, the photos are very grainy. Am I doing something wrong? I am NOT a well-versed photographer.

    It depends on what phone. Some produce images with noticeable noise, others not.

    Look in your camera app for an ISO setting. If you lower it, you get less grain. In full sunlight you probably don't need much more than 64, unless the subject is moving fast (a lower ISO will leave the camera on longer to gather more light). If the app you use doesn't have an ISO setting, look around the Play store for one that does. (The default app usually isn't the best you can do.)
