My wife and I just got our G5 Plus's. They are set up identically. When my phone is connected to our 2015 Honda cr-v and hers is not, my phone won't give voice directions and hers does. How do I get mine to give voice directions either through the phone speaker or via Bluetooth through the car.

First, are you certain the nav voice isn't muted? While the phone is navigating, see if the mute icon is present.

Also, in the settings for the Google Maps app, under Navigation Settings, is Play Voice Over Bluetooth turned on?

I don't have the option anywhere I can see that says Play Voice Over Bluetooth in Google Maps. I only have that on Waze, and I think I have looked in every possible menu to find it.

This is puzzling. Can you show us a screenshot of that Navigation Settings menu? Just curious to see if it otherwise looks exactly like mine.

Does that menu look exactly the same on your wife's phone?

The setting options are identical, however one of the setting is different. The setting option >Driving notifications >Get ETAs when you connect to your car's Bluetooth
was in the on position. I turned it off and I will see if that solves the problem on my phone.

Check out the workaround from Mike J Stone in this thread: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/DnLF5OdPLOo. He turned off the Media Audio switch in the main Bluetooth settings for the car system. Obviously, though, this means the nav voice would come through the phone's speaker, and you also wouldn't be able to stream music from your phone to the car system.

There's a longer thread about the issue here, but I couldn't see any definitive fixes: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/maps/s-gCCsFVszg/fHHFamkFCgAJ;context-place=forum/maps

I used the car last evening and by turning off "Get ETAs when you connect to your cars Bluetooth" was the solution. I now get the voice prompts from the phone speaker.

Ok, at least you're getting the voice prompts! But you still haven't figured out how to get it through the car stereo, right?:-\

On my car unless I have the car stereo source set to Bluetooth I won't receive the Google Maps notifications. The phone automatically connects to bluetooth so the notifications don't play on the phone - but if the stereo source is set to Radio I won't hear them on the stereo either - even though the a bluetooth phone call will interrupt the radio. As far as I can remember there used to be a setting in Google Maps to play audio over phone bluetooth which solved this problem - but I can't find it any more.
