Brand new galaxys9 plus notifications play through both speaker and headphones when plugged in?

Hey AndroidCentral, I have a brand new galaxy s9+ and the notification noises come through handset when headphones are plugged in. Yes their seated fully, yes no debris in the audio port, and the headphones are the ones that came with the phone, and confirmed problem with a reliable set of other headphones used with my previous phone.

I have read this is a very common problem online? And of course SoundAbout crashes everytime I try to open the app. I was so excited for this phone and now im definitely not. Something so simple should work automatically, and even applied effort and searching I can't even make an alternative solution work. Makes me want to whip it against the wall honestly, this is supposed to be the 'best' phone out there and now I want my iphone already. So depressing.

I'd guess, without being able to test the phone, that the headphone jack is defective. If it's new, have the phone replaced.
