why tethering use more data?

[Android Central Question]

data usage in phone shows i used 84 mb on tethering portable hotspot but my laptop shows only 18mb i just loaded a couple of web pages so i am sure data usage in laptop is correct but the phone consumed 84 mb i am also sure my laptop is the only device connected to the hotspot
i need help thanks in advance

No, your phone is correct. When your PC is connected to mobile hotspot, it's doing other things - perhaps downloading updates to Windows, or fetching calendar/contact/email from a cloud service - in the background. In other words, you may only be using a web browser, but the computer is doing more than that behind the scenes.
