I'm currently using a Nexus 5 and a Shield K1 tablet. Yes I know their VERY outdated. I'm looking for away to stop getting updates across these devices as well as my computer. For example, YouTube notifies me (on my computer if I'm using it at the time) of new videos posted from channels I follow. If 10 min. to 3 days later I turn on the wi-fi on either my phone or tablet I get notifications popping up on both devices telling me said videos were recently posted. Which really boggs down these older devices. BUT, if I'm on my tablet or phone with wi-fi on I want to receive these notifications so I know they're been posted.
Basically I want to know if there is any way to stop this from happening, aside from just leaving wi-fi turned on, on all my devices all the time?

Welcome to Android Central! I see that behavior as well. Not sure if there's any way to avoid it, based on the criteria you mentioned.
