Black out status bar on Homescreen.

Since you can't change the font color of the status bar, why can't you blackout the background of it on the homescreen? I noticed Chrome does blackout the status bar but when I navigate back to the homescreen the white font of the status bar blends into my wallpaper. I have manually added a black line to the top of my wallpaper and that does do the trick however, it's a very crude fix.

This is dependent on the phone's launcher. Some put shadowing on the top to keep the icons visible. Others do have the option you are looking for.

I use Nova Launcher Prime, and that option is available.
