Android Central Question

I use the music app 'Neutron', which is not compatible with android auto. Whenever I connect my S9 plus to my car with a usb, I have trouble.

1. If android auto is installed on my phone, then I am unable to use the steering wheel buttons with Neutron; using them causes Google Play to start, putting Neutron in standby.

2. If I uninstall android auto, my phone refuses to connect with my car whatsoever, and constantly asks to install android auto.

How can I just connect my s9 to my car without having to use android auto?

This is kind of the point of Android Auto - to restrict access to apps outside that "container" to reduce distractions. Yes, I get that the app is a music player and those are allowed in AA, this particular one has not declared support for it though.

This may depend on the vehicle. Some may allow Bluetooth-only connections for media streaming and calls while others will force AA on you for that. Check in your vehicle or stereo system's owner's manual, this may be referenced there.

How can you get the best of both worlds? Contact the app developer and see if they can add Android Auto support to the app.
