Will my phone storage be affected by a virus on my SD card? What to do?

I was downloading a movie on my phone last night when my phone prompted me that my SD card is being unmounted, after that, I checked in settings and opened my storage and checked if my SD card is still discoverable by my phone. Then after confirming that it is now not detected I immediately removed my SD card suspecting it had a virus.

If it has a Linux virus (the OS in Android is Linux), put the card into a Windows or Mac computer and scan it. (A Linux virus can't run in Windows or OSX.)

Can <almost anything you name> be caused by a virus? If it can be done by an app it can be done by a virus (which is just an app).

And I hope this makes you realize how risky it is to download mainstream movies "free" from random websites. These sites are high risk for malware, and besides, it's piracy, which we strongly discourage.
