Why won't contacts show up on my contact list after I add and save them to Google?

After the most recent update on my Samsung s7, when I try to add a contact like I always have, it looks like it saved, but it's nowhere on my contact list and doesn't show up when I search. I have checked permissions on my phone app and restarted it to no avail.

Saving the contacts to Google (at Google Contacts)? Go to Accounts/your account and turn Contacts sync off, then on.

Saving to the Contacts app on the phone? Either somehow you really ran out of storage space, or there's something corrupted. If you have some free internal storage, the phone needs a repair shop.
