Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, it's difficult to access that information, even if it's just the screen that's damaged. In order to access the phone by connecting to a computer via USB, you'd still have to unlock the phone's lockscreen, and then change the USB connection to MTP (since it defaults to Charge Only). If it's more than the screen (i.e., if it won't even power on), then there's no way to access that data short of bringing it to a forensic data recovery specialist. Your best bet is to bring it to a repair shop and see if it's a simple repair, like a loose screen connection or a full screen replacement.
