I got a new phone and gave my daughter my old phone. I erased all of my contacts except the ones she needs. I changed some of the names (Mom to Grandma ). Now my phones has changed to these and all the contacts I deleted are back? Is a factory reset the best way to make this stop?

You will need to access your Google account which you activated the phone with. The Google dashboard is where you want to go.
Yes, you can separate them, but to make sure it's done completely, I recommend some research.
