Contacts won't transfer from galaxy s9+bluetooth to handsfree link

Just got a new phone and couldn't link contacts to care Bluetooth. The problem was when I transferred contacts to new device it was from my Gmail account and wasn't actually on my phone. Contacts needed to be imported from Gmail account to my phone. You can see if numbers are on phone by going to contacts, settings, contacts to show. If you click phone and nothing comes up, the car Bluetooth will not pick up the numbers
