continuous audio record to separate fixed-length files?

Car dashcams record video to small, fixed length files like 1, 3 or 5 minutes each, named with time and date. That way you do not have to wade through a huge file to find the brief interesting part. Is there an audio recorder app (don't want video) that works this way, with continuous audio recording to a sequence of fixed-length files? I found a voice recorder that removes "silence" below a threshold, but output is still all one big file until you manually stop it.

I haven't seen any. You can use a program like Audacity to chop out pieces and save them as individual files.
