Do I have to download a certain app to get to the clipboard? l

No. Copy or cut to put things in, paste to use them. You can, if you prefer, install a clipboard app that allows you to keep more than one thing at a time in the clipboard (Samsung has done that by default), but for single items there's no need.

But that's all you can do with a clipboard - copy, cut and paste. Either text, pictures (the picture itself, as it's displayed) or files (including music, pictures, videos, etc.)
