Youtube app stuck trying to connect to chromecast and won't play video on phone

[Android Central Question]

I use chromecast with the youtube app at home. When I leave the house and try to watch video on the youtube app it keeps trying to reconnect to chromecast and won't play on the phone.

Restarting the phone, force quitting youtube and turning off wifi doesn't solve the issue. Since the cast icon disappears, I can't select the "stop casting" option. Google home shows no casting devices in range. This goes on for hours after leaving the house. Very frustrating, please help!

Welcome to Android Central! Try clearing the cache/data from both the YouTube and Google Home apps (if you have the latter installed).

Or turn off casting before you leave the house.
