Moto X4 - how do I work the security number

So I'm trying to set this phone to use only the fingerprint to let me in. I set up some secondary PIN number, which I know and use. But the phone won't let me in.

What do I do after I enter the PIN number. Pressing the fingerprint sensor doesn't do anything. Even though I had that set up, it's never let me get to the screen. After I swipe up, the phone gives me the digits and 'emergency' and a check mark, then the back arrow at bottom left.

Any help for getting back into my phone would be appreciated.

Put in the PIN, then the check mark (or whatever Motorola uses for an Enter key) and it will let you in. After that, the fingerprint alone should work - until you restart the phone. IOW, the first time, you need the PIN as an added security measure. (If someone cuts off your finger and tries to unlock your phone when it's turned off, good luck.) Kind of overcautious, if you ask me, but once a day doesn't bother me (I turn the phone off every night).
