Android Central Question

Got prompted to update an app from android called Upsell. Has little green android logo next to it but just wondering what it is and why ive never had to update it before. Not sure if I've seen it before either. Anyone know?

In what way were you prompted to update the app?

If it was a pop-up on the screen (like a pop-up in a web browser on your PC), it was a scam to get you to install it. Clicking that pop-up, if you did, likely resulted in your getting more than you bargained for. App updates typically come from the Play Store and will show as a notification in the notification shade.

Upsell is not typically an app preinstalled on devices, as far as I know. You can see if it's on yours by going into the apps manager in your phone's settings.

I got it too. It came up as a notification and is not listed in my apps. It also is not listed with other installed apps from the Play Store but rather with system apps.

This is an LG system app. No idea what it does but it's on both LG phones I've owned and the prompt for the update is in the system app update section under Update Center under the About Phone settings. So it's a legitimate preinstalled system app on your phone.

This is my second LG V20, and have had this one since April, 2018. Until today I have never seen this App in Settings before. The so called update, was in my Notification drop down menu listed as usual. No details. Just notification link.
