Samsung Cloud and Google Photos?

[Android Central Question]

Recently, my Samsung Galaxy crashed, and from what I could tell- my photos had been on Google Photos, so I thought they were safe. However, upon getting my new phone I signed in to Google Photos and any recent ones, up to over a year ago were not there. What had I done wrong? A few were on Samsung Cloud and were transferred over. But how come now that those that were transferred via Samsung Cloud are not automatically backed up on Google Photos now? Because I still am not seeing them on there. I don't know if I'm making sense, I just do not understand how this works.
