S8 Active doesn't auto-populate contacts when messaging

[Android Central Question]

Just moved into new s8 active from an s5 and I'm having trouble with my messaging. On my s5, when I would tap the compose button and start typing a name in the recipient box, the phone would provide a list of suggested recipients based on my typing. New phone only recognizes and suggests contacts stored on sim card, not any of the contacts stored elsewhere. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Apps, select the Messaging app, then Permissions. Make sure it has permission to access Storage and Contacts.
