Can't connect to Bluetooth on Pioneer A/V receiver

I have a Pioneer VSX-LX102 A/V receiver. It's a new model, less than a year old. I can't connect to it from my Samsung Galaxy S8 phone. It shows up in my paired Bluetooth devices, but when I tap it, nothing happens, doesn't connect. Another Galaxy S8 phone in our house has the same problem. Any ideas?

Check the Pioneer manual to see what kind of connections it can make. Phone, of course, is out, you can't talk back unless you add a second channel somehow for the mic. If there's no "media" or "music", the phone and the receiver may have no common Bluetooth profiles.
