Does it use much data to have a radio app installed

I would like to have am on my radio on this phone

Yes, it does, which is perhaps - who can be sure? - why some carriers disable the FM radio in phones, where present, and oblige you to use your data while listening on an FM radio app instead.

If there's an FM radio in the phone, it doesn't use any data - it uses FM radio signals (which isn't something you pay for). If you run NextRadio Free Live FM Radio and a radio dial comes up, your phone has a radio.

If radio station cards come up, the phone has no radio in it (or the manufacturer turned it off, and you can't change that), so you're using mobile data. How much? For a half hour trip recently, mine used close to 18MB. (That's not GB, that's MB, so 0.018GB.) Not much. But 8 hours would be about 0.14GB, so doing it 5 days a week for a month would use about 3.2GB.
