Why is my internal memory malfunctioning, I have 16 megs and today it says I have 12, I cant fix it.

I have a Google Nexus 7 Android 2013 tablet, I use it 3 times a week on average sometimes less. It has 16 gigabytes. Today for no reason (it's data base is current) it stated I have 12 gigabytes and I did 3 separate repairs I can't fix the issue. I love my tablet. What could be wrong with it, please help.

Welcome to Android Central.

That sounds correct, since 16 GB is the total storage space on the device, but the 4 GB that aren't available are taken up by the Android operating system.
