no keyboard - how to reset Tab S?

Original Tab S.

Chronic 'process not completing - kill? | OK /Waitb message keys appearing.

Onscreen keyboard widget (at bottom of screen) not appearing at all when it should.

Software Factory Restore (via Settings|General) not working -- tablet won't shut down to reboot.

Can someone point me to instructions on how to restore using power/VolDown/Home (or comparable) process (presumably plugged in to a PC).
